Tomatoes Flyashentomat: reviews with photos, characteristics

There are an unimaginable variety of tomato varieties and hybrids in the world for every taste and size. After all, for some it is important that there are not just a lot of tomatoes, but a lot. Others, for the sake of the delicious taste of the fruit, are ready to put up with moderate tomato yields. Some are ready to break all records by growing the largest tomato in size and weight, while others prefer small tomatoes so that they can easily fit into any canning container.

But it turns out that there are varieties of tomatoes, the sight of fruit-bearing bushes of which will make any gardener’s heart beat tremulously. They cannot leave indifferent even people who are far from gardening and growing tomatoes. One of these varieties is the Flyashen tomato.

This variety of tomatoes is characterized by many non-standard qualities, and the history of its origin is also not entirely ordinary. In our country, it is not yet well known among wide circles of gardeners, so there are not many reviews about it. This article is intended to fill this gap, and is devoted to a detailed description of the variety and characteristics of Flyashentomat, as it is sometimes called.

History of the appearance of the variety

Speaking about the emergence of the Flyashen tomato variety, it is necessary to begin with the fact that for the last several decades in the world there have been special varieties and hybrids of tomatoes with an elongated, pepper-shaped shape that have been actively developed by breeders. Tomatoes of this group have dense flesh and, due to the high dry matter content, are even hollow.

Comment! They are very convenient to use in cooking for preparing various sauces, since they do not require long evaporation, for drying, and for making stuffed dishes.

Among them, the most famous are San Marzano, Eros, Auria and others.

In Germany, they even created a special name for this group of tomatoes - Flaschentomaten, which means bottle tomatoes. Indeed, many representatives of this group are very similar in shape to a bottle, since, in addition to the elongated shape, the fruits have a slight thinning (waist) approximately in the middle.

Already in the 21st century, the German breeder Valery Sonn, taking as a basis a tomato hybrid called Corianne F1 from the group of bottle tomatoes, made an attempt to develop a new variety, some plants of which had larger fruits and much higher yields than the original hybrid. After all, the tomatoes of the Corianne F1 hybrid looked more like cherry tomatoes, and were very small, reaching only 4-5 cm in length.

Attention! For some reason, he named the new variety with a name that coincided with the name of an entire group of tomatoes, that is, Flaschentomaten. And if this name of the variety is pronounced in the Russian manner, then you get the Flyashen tomato.

Since this variety was obtained quite recently, it has not yet fully established itself and in the resulting plants there may be some differences in the shape and size of the fruit, depending on the growing conditions.

The Flyashen tomato has not yet been included in the State Register of Russia, since, from a biological point of view, it is too early to call it a variety. He still has to go through many more tests in order for the plant characteristics to stabilize.

Description of the variety

The Flyashen tomato can safely be classified as an indeterminate variety, since in favorable greenhouse conditions it can grow up to two or even three meters. In open ground conditions, it makes sense to grow it only in warm regions with long and hot summers, since it takes quite a long time to mature. Although the bushes are tall, the stems themselves are thin and not very spreading. This tomato produces a moderate amount of leaves and greenery, which allows the tomatoes to ripen well. Flower brushes are characterized by both simple and intermediate types.

Flyashen tomato bushes definitely need pinching, pruning and garter. Depending on the growing conditions, you can form it into one, two or three stems.

According to the ripening period, the Flyashen tomato can be classified as a mid-season variety.

Important! In conditions of insufficient light and heat, tomatoes can ripen for a very long time.

Under standard conditions, the ripening period is 110-120 days.

What strikes most gardeners most about this variety is its yield. Even in conditions of freezing and other unfavorable weather disasters, the bushes of this tomato variety produce a decent harvest at the level of ordinary tomato varieties. In good conditions, its yield really impresses everyone who saw its shoots bent over from the weight of the fruit. From one plant you can get up to 6-7 kg of tomatoes or even more.

Tomato Flyashen shows good resistance to many diseases, primarily to the scourge of all nightshades - late blight. Has high energy to recover from damage due to adverse weather conditions.

Attention! The clear weakness of this tomato, which appears in most reviews of gardeners about the Flyashen tomato, is its susceptibility to blossom end rot.

However, since this disease is not infectious, but manifests itself only as a consequence of not entirely proper care, it is quite easily corrected by treatment with calcium-containing preparations. For example, Brexil Calcium or dolomite solution.

Fruit characteristics

Once you see the incomparable clusters of Flyashen tomatoes with a huge number of fruits, you will definitely want to grow such a miracle in your own garden.

The shape of tomatoes, as already described above, is elongated, oblong. They look like small bottles. Some gardeners call these tomatoes finger tomatoes, others call them icicle tomatoes. Indeed, tomatoes of this variety often develop a small spout at the end. But, since the original hybrid has, on the contrary, a small depression in this place, some plants can also produce fruits of this shape, that is, without a spout. This may be due to the fact that the variety has not yet completely stabilized.

The size of the tomatoes is small, you can even call them large cherry tomatoes. The average weight of the fruit is 40-60 cm, the length can reach 6-9 cm.Tomatoes ripen in bunches of such large size that they often resemble some strange fruit, and not tomatoes at all. Up to several dozen fruits can ripen simultaneously in one cluster. The brushes themselves are also characterized by sufficient density, which only enhances the decorative effect of tomato bushes.

The color of unripe tomatoes is light green, while ripened fruits have a pleasant reddish tint.

The skin of tomatoes is quite dense and has a special gloss. The pulp is dense, but at the same time juicy. There are so few seeds in the fruits that propagating this variety using the traditional seed method can be difficult. In addition, those seeds that exist are surrounded not by the pulp of the fruit, but by a dense jelly, from which they can be difficult to extract.

Advice! To propagate the Flyashen tomato, it is advisable to use rooting of stepsons, which will allow you to grow these tomatoes all year round if you wish.

When ripe, Flyashen tomatoes have a rich, sweet taste, all the more surprising for tomatoes with similar yield characteristics. Tomatoes contain a high percentage of dry matter. They are excellent for any preparation and are especially good in dried and dried form. They are also suitable for freezing.

The video below shows drying tomatoes in detail.

The fruits of the Flyashen tomato are stored very well, ripen indoors and can withstand any transportation.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

Flyashen tomatoes have many advantages:

  • Ultra-high record yield.
  • Long-term fruiting, right up to frost.
  • Beautiful, original shape and size of the brush and fruit.
  • Resistance to late blight and comparative unpretentiousness in cultivation.
  • Sweet, rich tomato flavor.

Among the shortcomings we can only note:

  • Predisposition to blossom end rot.
  • Long ripening of fruits with a lack of heat and light.

Features of cultivation

Seeds for growing Flyashen tomato seedlings are sown starting in early March. As a rule, in this case we are talking about very valuable seeds, so it is recommended to pre-soak them in growth stimulants and germinate the seeds. This will allow you to immediately track the germination of the seeds and plant them in separate containers, so that in the future you can only transfer the seedlings into larger containers.

Immediately after germination, Flyashen tomato seedlings must be placed in a place with a cooler temperature and maximum illumination. After the first two true tomato leaves have unfurled, the plants can be transplanted into larger (0.5 l) containers.

Advice! Due to the sensitivity of this tomato variety to blossom end rot, from the very first months of growing seedlings, pay attention to feeding with calcium preparations.

It is good to use Brexil Ca to prevent calcium deficiency, since it also contains a certain amount of boron, and all the necessary elements are in the preparation in the most accessible form for plants.

We must not forget that this disease is also caused by hot weather and insufficient or uneven watering.

When planting in the ground, tomato bushes must be placed at a density of no more than 3-4 plants per square meter. In addition, for the Flyashentomat it is necessary to immediately provide high and strong supports, up to two meters high. They are usually placed on the north or west side of the bush at a distance of 6-10 cm.

Since tomato plants of this variety consume a lot of nutrients for such abundant fruit production, they need regular (once a week) feeding. You can use both organic and mineral fertilizers. But it is advisable to feed the tomatoes one last time 30-40 days before the expected harvest.

Reviews

Reviews from gardeners about the Flyashen tomato are mostly not only positive, but also enthusiastic. Which, however, is not surprising, given the characteristics of this variety.

Larisa, 46 years old, Belgorod
I accidentally got a few tomato seeds of the Flyaschen variety from Germany. I tried so hard to grow them in an ideal way, but still they managed to get subject to return frosts when planted in the ground. She saved it, of course, by cutting off everything that was damaged, and they grew back as stepchildren, but we couldn’t expect real harvests from them. I will definitely try to grow them again, because even in such a half-crippled form, the tomatoes shocked me with their productivity. In addition, these tomatoes still keep very well. At the end of summer, they still managed to get caught in a hailstorm and even in a damaged state, with spots, they lay for about 3-4 weeks and looked absolutely as if they had just been picked from the garden.
Valentina, 52 years old, Khakassia
Flyashentomat's tomatoes were very tasty, sweet, like natural candies. Dense in structure, ideal for all workpieces. But I didn’t like that I was severely affected by crown rot.
Olga, 34 years old, Moscow region
I also grew Flyashen tomatoes last season. The variety is very interesting; during last year’s short summer it managed to grow very good brushes. Of course, I grew it in a greenhouse and in warm beds fertilized with organic matter. But still, the bushes looked great. The top was in single copies, and did not affect the harvest in any way. Making sun-dried tomatoes from the fruits of this variety is a real pleasure. It's a pity, there were just very few seeds. Some of his stepchildren even decided to root them so as not to be left without these tomatoes next year.

Conclusion

The Flyashen tomato variety looks very promising in many respects and it seems that it has every reason to become one of the most popular tomato varieties, at least for winter harvesting.
