Striped flight - a cocktail variety of culture

History of selection

Striped flight is the result of breeding work by employees of the Gavrish agricultural company, which specializes in developing new varieties and hybrids of vegetable and flower crops. This type successfully passed all tests and fully confirmed all the characteristics declared by the originator, therefore in 2017 it was included in the State Register. The variety Striped Reis is recommended for cultivation in all regions of Russia in greenhouses, hotbeds, and unprotected soil.

Description of the tomato variety Striped flight

This type of tomato belongs to the category of determinate, that is, the growth of its main shoot is limited. The height of the Striped Reis bushes in greenhouse conditions reaches 1.2 m, and in unprotected soil - 0.8-1.0 m. The plant is characterized by strong shoots, but during the period of fruit ripening they can bend under load, so they need to be supported.

The striped flight is prone to increased growth of stepsons. Maximum efficiency can be achieved by forming this tomato into 3-4 shoots. All other stepsons that form on top must be removed in a timely manner so that the bush does not waste nutrients.

The leaves of the Striped Flight are of a standard shape and size, with a rich green hue. The surface of the plates and stems is slightly pubescent. The first fruit cluster grows above 6-7 leaves, and then every 2. The bunch consists of 30-40 tomatoes.

Striped flight is a mid-early variety. The first fruits ripen 110 days after emergence. The fruiting period lasts 1.5-2 months, but the tomatoes on the bunch ripen at the same time. Each shoot produces 3-4 fruit clusters per season.

Important! Striped flight is a variety, so its seeds are suitable for sowing, and new seedlings retain all the specific qualities of the tomato.

Description of fruits

Striped flight tomatoes, as seen in the photo below, have a round, regular shape with no signs of ribbing. The average weight of each does not exceed 30-40 g. When ripe, tomatoes become chocolate-burgundy in color with dark green uneven stripes over the entire surface. The taste of tomatoes is pleasant, sweetish with a slight sourness.

The skin is smooth and shiny, quite dense, so Striped flight tomatoes do not crack even with high humidity. The pulp is fleshy, moderately juicy. Burns do not appear on the surface of tomatoes even with prolonged exposure to sunlight.

Inside each tomato there are 2-3 seed chambers

Important! Striped flight tomatoes hold firmly on the stalk and do not fall off even when fully ripe.

This variety easily tolerates transportation and long-term storage at temperatures not exceeding + 10 °C. Premature harvesting and ripening at home is acceptable, since the taste of the tomatoes does not deteriorate from this.

Characteristics of tomato Striped flight

This type of culture has certain features that are worth paying attention to. Only by studying all the main characteristics of a variety can you understand how productive it is.

Tomato yield Striped flight and what affects it

Tomato Striped flight, despite the small size of the fruit, is characterized by high and stable yield. This is achieved due to the large number of fruits on one cluster. From 1 plant you can harvest up to 3 kg of tomatoes, and from 1 sq. m - about 8.5-9 kg, which is quite good for a determinate species.

The productivity of Striped Voyage depends on timely fertilizing throughout the season. Also, the formation of the ovary is affected by the timely removal of stepsons. This allows you to redirect the plant’s forces to fruiting.

Important! Tomato Striped flight does not react well to dense plantings, therefore, to maintain the declared productivity, seedlings must be planted at a distance of no closer than 50-60 cm.

Resistance to diseases and pests

This variety exhibits high resistance to pests and diseases. This was stated by the originator, and confirmed by gardeners who have already grown Striped flight on their site.

But if the conditions are inappropriate, the plant’s immunity is reduced, so during prolonged cold and rainy weather it is recommended to spray the bushes with fungicides.

Among the pests, this variety can be affected by the Colorado potato beetle at the initial stage when planted in open ground.

Area of application of fruits

Striped flight tomatoes are excellent for fresh consumption, both as an independent product and as part of summer salads with herbs. Due to their small size, they can be used for whole-fruit canning.

Features of planting and care

Striped flight must be grown in seedlings. Sowing should be carried out in early March for further cultivation in protected soil and at the end of the month for open soil. The age of seedlings at the time of planting in a permanent place should be 50-55 days.

Important! The germination rate of Striped Race seeds is very high and amounts to 98-99%, which is confirmed by reviews from gardeners.

Planting should be done in nutritious, loose soil with good air and moisture permeability. To do this, you need to use wide containers no more than 10 cm high with drainage holes. Planting depth – 0.5 cm.

Until friendly shoots appear, containers should be kept in a dark place with a temperature of + 25 ° C. Then move them to a bright windowsill and provide lighting for 12 hours. Therefore, in the evening you need to turn on the lamps so that the seedlings do not stretch out. During the first week after seed germination, the temperature should be within + 18 °C so that the seedlings can grow roots. And then increase the temperature by 2-3 °C.

Seedlings need to be picked at the stage of 2-3 true leaves.

2 weeks before transplanting to a permanent place, you need to prepare the site. To do this, you need to dig it up to a depth of 20 cm and add it to 1 square meter. m 10 kg of humus, 40 g of superphosphate, 200 g of wood ash, 30 g of potassium sulfide. You can plant tomato seedlings in a greenhouse at the end of April or at the beginning of the next month, and in unprotected soil - in the last days of May or at the beginning of June. The distance between holes should be 50 cm.

Important! Planting scheme for Striped flight: 3-4 plants per 1 sq. m.

This variety of tomatoes does not tolerate high humidity, so watering should be carried out as the top layer of soil dries, while avoiding moisture getting on the foliage. A support should be installed near each seedling and the shoots should be tied up as they grow. You should also remove all the stepsons that form on top, leaving only the bottom 2-3 pieces.

Tomato Striped flight requires constant fertilization.Feeding should be done every 14 days. During the period of active growth of green mass, organic matter and nitrogen-containing mineral fertilizers should be used, and during flowering and fruit set, phosphorus-potassium mixtures should be used. This requirement cannot be ignored, since it directly affects the yield of the variety.

Pest and disease control methods

To prevent the development of late blight and other fungal diseases, it is necessary to periodically spray the bushes with fungicides. Treatment should begin 2 weeks after planting in a permanent place and then repeat every 10 days. But at the same time, you should strictly observe the waiting period before harvesting, which is indicated in the instructions for the drug.

Effective remedies for fungal diseases of tomatoes - Ridomil Gold, Ordan, Quadris.

Reviews of tomato Striped flight

Elena Smolikova, 48 years old, Rylsk
I grew Striped Flight last year and was pleasantly surprised by the results. This variety forms medium-sized compact bushes with numerous rounded fruits.Tomatoes not only have a beautiful appearance, but also have a pleasant sweetish taste. The only thing this type lacks is a rich tomato aroma.
Inga Spitsyna, 41 years old, Kazan
I accidentally purchased Striped flight tomato seeds because the unusual color of the fruit on the label caught my attention. As a result, the expected coincided with the actual. The grown tomatoes not only looked appetizing, but also tasted great. Part of the harvest was used fresh, and the rest was used to prepare winter preparations. Next season I will grow Striped Flight again, since I stocked up on seeds from the collected fruits.

    1. I didn’t like the “Striped Flight” variety. The clusters are powerful, there are a lot of tomatoes, but they are small, and the taste is complete disappointment; after trying them, they tore out the bushes and threw them away.
We grew them in a greenhouse, and the other tomatoes tasted good.
