The Izobilny cucumber, created on the basis of the Poisk agricultural company, is part of a series of proprietary hybrids and varieties. Hybridization was aimed at breeding a crop for open cultivation in temperate climates. The Izobilny variety cucumber is an indeterminate species with intensive shoot formation. The vine reaches a length of 1.5 m. The frost-resistant plant was created for cultivation in open ground for regions with a temperate climate. Suitable for growing in greenhouse conditions in areas with longer winters than in the Central and European parts of Russia.

The small-fruited cucumber of the Izobilny variety belongs to the group of gherkins. Produces male and female flowers that require pollination.The foliage of the Izobilny variety is low, access to sunlight to the fruit is unhindered. Photosynthesis does not require excess ultraviolet radiation, and vegetation does not slow down with periodic shading.

Description of the cucumber variety Izobilny:

  1. The shoots are of medium volume, hard, with an uneven surface, sparse pubescence, short pile. Without removal, side shoots are not inferior in volume to the central stem. The color of the vine is light green with a brown tint.
  2. The leaves are light green, opposite, located on long petioles. The upper part of the leaf plate is hard, medium corrugated, the edges have large teeth. The leaves are small, five-lobed.

The culture is heat-resistant and reacts negatively to poorly drained soil, so when choosing a site, lowlands and places where groundwater accumulates are not suitable.

The location for the cucumber is determined on the south or east side; partial shading is not a problem for the variety. We recommend an area protected from drafts, such as the wall of a building or a solid fence.The planting site is prepared in advance, the soil is dug up, and ammonium nitrate is added. A prerequisite for growing is the installation of support.

Growing cucumbers Izobilny

This variety of cucumbers is grown in seedlings and by planting seeds in the garden. The seedling method shortens the ripening period by 2 weeks. When planting directly, in case of threat of return frosts, it is recommended to cover the cucumber seedlings with film overnight.

Direct planting in open ground

Planting work is carried out when the soil temperature is not lower than +16 0C, for the Middle Zone approximately at the end of May. First, cucumber seeds, wrapped in a damp cloth, are placed in the refrigerator for a day. Then they are treated with a manganese solution. Planting the variety on an unprotected area and in a greenhouse is the same:

  1. They loosen the bed and water it.
  2. The holes are deepened by 1.5 cm.
  3. Place 2 seeds in each planting spot.
  4. Cover with soil and a layer of ash on top.

After the seedlings appear, they are thinned out, leaving one strong sprout in the hole. The second one can also be planted in the garden bed.

Attention! The culture does not take root well after transplantation; most of the cucumbers may not be accepted.

The Abundant cucumber does not grow wide and does not take up much space on the site, so an interval of 35 cm between the bushes will be enough. At 1 m2 place 3-4 cucumbers.

Growing by seedlings

The timing of planting seeds for seedlings is guided by regional climate characteristics; after 35 days, the seedlings of the variety are ready for placement in the main place of growth. The work is carried out approximately in mid-April. Seed placement:

  1. Take wooden boxes or plastic containers, the best option is peat or plastic glasses.
  2. Pour a soil mixture prepared from organic matter, soil from the garden bed, sand and peat in equal proportions.
  3. Make furrows 1.5 cm deep in the boxes, place 1 seed at an interval of 5 cm.
  4. Place one seed in glasses at the same depth.
  5. Cover with soil, moisten, put in a room with an air temperature of +22 –24 0C.

The cucumbers are not picked; they are carefully removed from the container and planted on the site along with the root ball. The plastic cup is cut, the cucumber with the soil ball is placed on the garden bed. Seedlings grown in peat cups are planted along with the container.

Watering and fertilizing

The Izobilny cucumber variety is a drought-resistant plant, but with constant soil moisture, the growing season proceeds faster and the yield is higher. Water the crop at the root every other day after sunset. In the greenhouse, the watering regime is the same; the drip method is used.

This variety of cucumber does not like excess nitrogen; the bush will have a strong crown and small ovaries. In the spring, the crop is fed with organic matter, during the formation of gherkins with potassium fertilizers, and after 2 weeks with superphosphate.

Formation

The bush is formed by three shoots: a central vine and two side shoots. Be sure to install a support and tie the cucumbers to the trellis as they grow. The variety produces many stepsons, which are removed after the plant is formed. Cut off yellowed and lower leaves and excess tendrils. The top is not folded.

Protection from diseases and pests

Hybrid cucumbers are characterized by stable immunity to infection. The Izobilny variety practically does not get sick. In wet weather, anthracnose may occur. If the bush is infected with a fungus, it is treated with colloidal sulfur. The following measures will help prevent the development of the disease:

  • compliance with crop rotation;
  • timely removal weed;
  • spring treatment with Trichodermin;
  • spraying with copper sulfate during the formation of ovaries.

In open areas and in greenhouse conditions, the Izobilny cucumber is parasitized by the caterpillars of the Whitefly butterfly. To get rid of the pest we use insecticides.

Productivity

The first harvest begins in mid-July, the last fruits are harvested in early September. Before the onset of frost, the gherkins have time to fully ripen.
