Potatoes are the main vegetable in Russian gardens. And not only because its cultivation is relatively easy. The main thing for which potatoes are valued is their taste. Try it, name a person who could do without this root vegetable when cooking.
Everyone’s taste preferences are different: some like pink varieties, others like white ones. Today it is quite difficult to make a choice, since there are more and more varieties of Russian and foreign breeders every year. A little history
Let’s start our conversation about Ryabinushka potatoes not with the description of the variety itself, but with the history of its occurrence.
This is a variety of Russian breeders from the city of Vsevolzhsk. He is relatively young, “born” in 2007. Potatoes are included in the State Register of the Russian Federation.
Over ten years, the Ryabinushka variety has spread to many regions of Russia. It is grown not only in the central regions, but also in Siberia, the Far East, and the Caucasus. Judging by the reviews, residents of the former republics of the Soviet Union also fell in love with the pink vegetable: Moldovans, Belarusians, and Ukrainians.
Description
Rowan potatoes have tops with erect or semi-erect stems.A bush of medium height with wavy leaves of dark green color. They are of different sizes: the lower ones are large, closer to the top they become smaller. The flowers are violet-blue (see photo); balabolkas form in place of the inflorescence.
The tubers are pinkish-raspberry, smooth with a thin skin. Oval shape. The eyes on the potatoes are practically invisible, but during germination powerful sprouts are obtained. The pulp is a rich yellowish-cream color.
The average weight of a tuber is 90-130 grams, in a bush there are from 10 to 15 pieces.
Characteristics
Potatoes of the Ryabinushka variety have a huge number of advantages:
- Refers to mid-season varieties. After 2.5 months from planting, you can dig up young potatoes, and after another half a month you can start harvesting.
- The yield of Ryabinushka potatoes is excellent - from 220 to 450 centners per hectare. That is why the variety is grown not only in private farmsteads, but also on an industrial scale.
- High starch content – up to 18%.
- Excellent taste.
- The plant is resistant to many diseases, including late blight. The percentage of damage to tops and tubers is low.
- High keeping quality. By spring, up to 90% of the planted tubers are preserved.
- Mechanical damage does not lead to darkening of the pulp. Potatoes can be transported to any distance.
Taste qualities
The Ryabinushka potato variety, taking into account reader reviews, has an excellent taste. During cooking (cooking, frying) it maintains the integrity of the pieces. Boiled potatoes are covered with grains of starch on top. Can be used for preparing any dishes.The dark cream pulp of the Rowan mushroom does not lose color during heat treatment.

Landing
Potatoes of the Ryabinushka variety are unpretentious, but it is best to choose a place for planting them where beans, peas, lupines, and grain crops were grown last year.
Planting material is stored well, so it is taken out of storage for germination a month before planting. After careful sorting, the tubers are sorted by size. It is best to use potatoes similar in size to a chicken egg. Before planting, you can soak in a solution of boric acid (for half an hour) or copper sulfate (for 3-5 minutes).
Seed potatoes are laid out at a distance of 25-30 cm. The depth of the hole is no more than 10 cm. The top is dusted with ash and covered with soil.
Care
There are no particular difficulties when caring for the Ryabinushka variety, you need:
- Loosen the soil, remove weeds.
- Monitor and destroy pests.
- To prevent diseases, you can treat the bushes with special preparations.
- The variety is demanding of moisture, so in the absence of rain, the plantings need to be watered and fertilized.
- Hilling of potatoes is carried out twice.

Rules for storing elite potatoes
After harvesting, you should think about storing it.
Leave the potatoes for 12 days to ripen and dry. After this, you need to start sorting what is for seeds, what is for the needs of the farm, what is for food.
Seed material is selected in the fall. After all, it still needs to be prepared for wintering.For future plantings, we select potatoes of the Ryabinushka variety based on size, without damage or signs of disease. We wash it and put it in the sun for landscaping. So, the seeds are better stored.
