Potatoes Ilyinsky

With a wide variety of potato varieties, they often choose those that are sold at the nearest spontaneous market or even from cars in bags or buckets. The quality of such planting material can be completely unpredictable. Usually, after several attempts to grow a more or less decent harvest, novice gardeners turn to more experienced people for advice. And, of course, they are advised to first try to get tubers of several old proven varieties of different ripening periods and, as they gain experience, choose the most suitable potato for growing.

The Ilyinsky potato may well serve as one of these varieties, with the cultivation of which a novice gardener can begin to get acquainted with potatoes. It has fairly average characteristics, but many people still like its taste. Therefore, it is grown with pleasure in many regions of Russia.

Description of the variety

The description of the Ilyinsky potato variety traditionally begins with its history of origin. This potato was bred in Russia at the end of the last century by a group of breeders from the Moscow region with the help of several farms in which additional tests of the variety were carried out. The originator is the Federal State Budgetary Institution All-Russian Research Institute of Potato Farming named after A.G. Lorja. The variety was registered in the State Register of Russia in 1999 with recommendations for use in the Middle-Volga and Central Black Earth regions of Russia.

Ilyinsky potato bushes are of medium height and have good foliage. The stems tend to fall apart from the center, like most potato varieties, so hilling is necessary and allows you to increase yield by forming additional tubers in the hilling area. The leaves are medium in size, with virtually no wavy edges. The inflorescences are very small, with a purple-red corolla.

Characteristics of the variety

The Ilyinsky Potato variety is characterized by early ripening. This means that it has a relatively short growing season, and potatoes can be harvested 70-90 days after planting.

The yield of the variety is quite average, varying from 200 to 300 centners per hectare. The maximum yield in favorable conditions can reach 360 centners per hectare. In terms of ordinary garden acres, we can say that from one square meter of planting you can get up to 5 kg of potatoes.

The storage quality of the Ilyinsky variety is quite good, especially for mid-early varieties, which are usually intended for current summer consumption and are not stored for a particularly long time. Nevertheless, such a characteristic as shelf life is 93%.

The variety has good resistance to potato cancer, scab and some viral diseases. But it is quite susceptible to potato nematode and late blight in the above-ground part of the bush. Tubers are much more resistant to late blight.

Ilyinsky potatoes tolerate hot weather conditions quite well and are relatively drought-resistant.

Characteristics of tubers

Ilyinsky potato tubers have the following characteristics:

  • The shape is rather round, but sometimes rounded-oblong and uneven.
  • The mass of tubers is small, on average from 60 to 150 grams.
  • The skin color is red-pink, quite distinctive.
  • The pulp is white.
  • The eyes are red, small in size, of medium depth.
  • The starch content is average, from 15.8 to 18%. It is enough that it boils slightly, but generally retains its shape after heat treatment.
  • Ilyinsky potatoes have an excellent taste. This variety is used to make crispy potatoes.

Attention! The pulp of potatoes of this variety does not darken when cut raw, or after cooking.

The high marketability of potatoes is its most outstanding feature compared to other varieties. It varies from 88 to 99%. This indicator means the number of tubers suitable for sale or food in relation to the entire dug crop.

Reviews from gardeners

The description of the Ilyinsky potato variety will be incomplete without including reviews with photos.

And we have the earliest potato on the table - Ilyinskaya. We start eating it in mid-July. Young potatoes with sour cream, especially from your own garden, are a real pleasure. They say that in order to speed up the ripening of late potatoes, they need to be planted mixed with early varieties. That's exactly what I do.

My parents also advised me to plant this particular potato – Ilyinskaya. We really liked the taste, it is universal in use.My wife boils it, bakes it, and prepares a lot of different things from it - everything is very tasty. And it is stored wonderfully. It may well remain in the cellar until spring. And at the same time, it ripens quite early - already in July we begin to slowly dig it up and eat it.

Conclusion

Ilyinsky potatoes are valued by many gardeners for the high marketability of tubers and excellent taste.
