The diverse cobweb is a representative of the Cobweb family, the genus Cobweb. This mushroom is also called smooth-skinned cobweb. It is a rare mushroom, but is sometimes found in Russian deciduous and coniferous forests.
Description of the variety of cobwebs
The diverse cobweb got its name because of the cobwebby white veil that connects the edge of the cap to the stem. Its flesh is elastic, thick and fleshy. Initially it is white, but with age it begins to turn yellow. It does not have a pronounced taste or smell. The spores are brown, ellipsoidal-almond-shaped and rough, 8-9.5 by 5-5.5 microns.
Description of the cap
The cap is hemispherical in shape with a diameter of 6 to 10 cm. With age, it straightens, leaving only a wide tubercle in the center. The surface is damp and smooth. After heavy rain it becomes sticky. In dry summers it has a yellowish tint, and with heavy rain it acquires an ocher-brown color. On the inside of the cap, sparse and whitish plates grow, attached to the stem. Over time they turn brown. In young specimens they are hidden by a cobwebby white blanket, which disappears with age.
Description of the leg
It is characterized as round, dense, solid inside, turning into a small tuber at the base. Reaches up to 8 cm in height, and its diameter is approximately 2 cm. The surface is matte and smooth. As a rule, it is initially painted white, then gradually acquires a yellow tint.
Where and how does it grow
This species can be especially often found in the European part of Russia, as well as in Eastern Europe. The favorable time for their development is from July to October. Most often they grow in coniferous and dense deciduous forests. They can grow either singly or in groups.
Is the mushroom edible or not?
The variety of cobwebs belongs to the category of conditionally edible mushrooms. Most reference books claim that forest products should be boiled for 30 minutes before cooking, and young ones do not require additional processing at all. Mushrooms are suitable for frying and pickling.
Doubles and their differences
The diverse cobweb has a regular and widespread shape, which can sometimes confuse the mushroom picker. Its main counterparts include the following specimens:
- Borovik – has a cap similar in shape and color, but its distinguishing feature is its thick stem. They grow in the same foxes as the diverse web. Classified as edible.
- Variable cobweb – the fruiting body of the multifarious cobweb is identical to its counterpart: the size of the cap reaches up to 12 cm, and the stem up to 10 cm. It has a reddish-orange or brown color. It is considered conditionally edible. Most often found in the eastern and southern regions.
Conclusion
The diverse cobweb is considered conditionally edible. This type of mushroom can be eaten only after proper pre-treatment.
