What does a dry rotting bug look like?

The mushroom is shaped like an umbrella

The fruiting body of the specimen in question consists of a small cap and a long stalk. The pulp is very thin, has no pronounced odor and bitter taste.

Description of the cap

Always grows in large groups

At the initial stage of ripening, the cap of the dry rotting plant is bell-shaped or cushion-shaped; as it matures, it acquires an almost prostrate shape. In its central part there may be a tubercle or a pronounced flat zone, less often a small depression. The size of the cap is small, only 0.5 to 3 cm.It is colored in bright red-brown or orange-brown shades; older mushrooms fade. In the central part of the cap, the rich color lasts longer than along its edges. The surface is smooth, dry and matte with clearly defined radial grooves.

On the inside of the cap there are sparse, almost free or fused plates. Painted in light cream or pale yellow tones. The spores are cylindrical or fusiform, smooth, sometimes slightly curved.

Description of the leg

Grows throughout the summer and in the first half of autumn

For such a small cap, the stem of dry rotten is considered to be quite long, the height of which ranges from 2.5 to 7 cm. Its maximum thickness in diameter reaches about 1.5 mm. It is characterized as central, rigid, straight or slightly curved, smooth, without thickening. The surface is shiny and smooth to the touch. The upper part of the leg is painted white or light yellow, while the lower part is dominated by dark brown or black shades. A white felt mycelium can be seen at the base.

Where and how does it grow

The optimal time for growth is from June to September. Most often, dry rotting grass lives in deciduous forests on small dead trees or leaf litter, and less often on needles. Widely distributed throughout Asia, America and Europe, including Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. This species does not tend to grow alone; it is usually found in large groups.

Important! The dry rotting grass prefers to settle in places of high humidity.

Is the mushroom edible or not?

Dry rotten mushroom belongs to the category of inedible mushrooms.Due to the small size of the fruiting bodies, it has no nutritional value and is not suitable for consumption.

Doubles and their differences

In terms of external characteristics, dry rotting grass is similar to the following forest gifts:

  1. Blood-headed rotter. It is an inedible and rare species that has the ability to glow in the dark. You can recognize the doppelgänger by its small, dome-shaped cap in red and a rather long stem in dark shades.
  2. Negniyuchnik wheel-shaped – in the shape and size of the fruiting body, this specimen is very similar to the described species. However, the distinctive feature is the color of the mushroom. Thus, the cap of the double in young specimens is painted white, and in mature specimens it is grayish-yellow. Not edible.
  3. Smelly negligent. Belongs to the group of inedible and poisonous mushrooms. You can distinguish the double by its yellowish-brown cap and black, shorter leg, the maximum length of which is 3 cm. In addition, this species grows on old deciduous wood.

Conclusion

Dry Negnyuchnik is a fairly common species of the Negnyuchnikov family, which can be found not only in Russia, but also abroad. However, such a specimen is not of interest to mushroom pickers, since it does not have any nutritional value.
