Entoloma is bluish-white, or lead-white, growing in the middle zone. Belongs to the large family Entolomaceae, synonym Entoloma lividoalbum, in popular scientific literature - bluish-white pink-plate.
Description of Entoloma bluish-white
The large, inedible mushroom gives the forest greater diversity. In order not to mistakenly put it in the basket during a quiet hunt, you should study its description in detail.
Description of the cap
The cap of the bluish-white entoloma is large, from 3 to 10 cm wide. At first cone-shaped, later it opens up and takes on a slightly convex or flat-convex shape with a small tubercle in the middle, dark or light. Sometimes, instead of a bulge, a depression is formed, and the edges rise.The top is painted in yellow-brown shades, divided into circular zones. In dry weather, the color is lighter, ocher shade, and the zoning is more pronounced. After rain the skin is slippery.
The frequent plates are initially whitish, then creamy, dark pink, and of uneven width. The dense flesh is white, thicker in the center, translucent around the edges. There is a powdery smell.
Description of the leg
The height of the cylindrical club-shaped leg of the bluish-white entoloma is 3-10 cm, diameter 8-20 mm.
Other signs:
- often curved;
- on the smooth surface there are small fibrous flakes on top;
- white or light cream;
- Inside there is solid white pulp.
Is the mushroom edible or not?
The fruiting body contains toxic substances. Entoloma bluish-white, according to experts, is inedible. An unpleasant odor also indicates this.
Where and how does it grow
Lead-white entoloma is rarely found, but it grows in different areas of Europe:
- on the edges of deciduous forests or in large clearings, along the sides of forest roads;
- in parks;
- in gardens with uncultivated soil.
The time of appearance is from the 20th of August to the beginning, mid-October.
Doubles and their differences
When collecting Entoloma garden, which is widespread in many areas, beginners can take a bluish-white one instead of a conditionally edible specimen with a beige-gray cap, 5-10 cm in diameter. But their timing of appearance in the forest is different - garden ones are harvested in late spring.
Another inedible species, Entoloma condensed, appears at the same time, towards the end of summer and in September. The cap is similar - gray-brown, large, and the leg is thin, gray. The smell is fresh.
Conclusion
Entoloma bluish-white, being a non-edible mushroom, differs from those suitable for consumption not so much in external characteristics, but in terms of timing. They don’t collect other doubles either.
