The garden equipment market is filled with lawn mowers from famous brands. The consumer can select the unit according to the desired parameters. Among this variety, the Viking gasoline lawn mower, assembled in Austria, is not lost. Now this brand has merged with the famous STIHL corporation. Viking presented the consumer with a model range of 8 series, including more than 40 varieties of lawn mowers.
What does the Viking brand offer to consumers?
The Viking brand specializes more in equipment designed for mowing grass. In particular, these are lawn mowers with gasoline and electric engines. The manufacturer produces more than 40 types of such machines. You can find out the engine type by its letter designation:
- E – electric motor;
- B – gasoline engine.
If the marking additionally contains the letter M, then the unit has a mulching function.
Gasoline mowers
The range of Viking petrol lawn mowers is the largest. It includes units for processing large and small areas, mulching, special and professional machines. Each class contains models of different series, differing in their characteristics and performance.
Main components of a gasoline unit
The design of Viking gasoline mowers is practically no different from analogues of other brands. The basis is the frame where the wheels are installed. The body is made of metal that is resistant to corrosion and mechanical stress. Depending on the model, the mower may be equipped with rear-wheel drive. A cutting mechanism in the form of a two-bladed knife is installed under the body. Its design can be different, depending on the purpose of the lawn mower:
- mulching models are equipped with a straight blade;
- units with a grass catcher have a knife with rolled edges, with the help of which the mown vegetation is thrown into the basket.
A motor is installed on top of the body of the gasoline mower. The connection with the cutting mechanism is provided by direct drive. The engine on the housing is open without a protective casing. This device helps ensure optimal air cooling.
The gasoline unit is controlled by a handle. For convenience, it is equipped with adjustment so that the operator can adjust it to his height. The mown vegetation is collected in a grass catcher. The more productive the machine, the more spacious the basket. Any grass catcher is equipped with a fullness indicator.
There are universal models of gasoline mowers with a grass catcher and mulching function. For regular grass mowing, the unit is used with a basket. When it is necessary to mulch, the grass catcher is removed, and the outlet for the grass to fly out is closed with a plug.
Review of Viking petrol mowers
The range of gasoline lawn mowers is extensive, so we will briefly look at the most prominent representatives:
- Lawn mowers for small and medium-sized work areas are presented in a class that includes three series. Each model has different specifications, but they all offer the same performance. The units are designed to care for a lawn with an area of 1.2 km2. Here we can highlight the following models: mb 248, mb 248 t, mb 253, mb 253 t.
The video provides a review of the Viking MB 448 TX:
- Viking petrol mowers, designed for caring for large lawns, belong to the sixth series. The units are characterized by high productivity and increased dimensions. They are similar in design to models of the second or fourth series. Prominent representatives are: MB640T, MB650V, MB655GS, MB650VS, MV650VE MB655V, MB655G.
- The Viking company presented lawn mowers with a mulching function as models without a grass catcher. This is how the units differ from their analogues. This series includes models: MB2R, MB2RT MB3RT, MB3RTX MB4R, MB4RT, MB4RTP.
- The special-purpose lawn mower is represented by one model – MB6RH. The design features three wheels instead of the traditional four. Thanks to this device, the unit is able to mow tall vegetation.
- The Viking lawn mower collection includes a professional model, but only one.Although it is presented to the consumer in three versions: MB756GS MB756YS MB756YC.
The manufacturer is not limited to producing only gasoline models. Next, we will look at Viking electric mowers.
Design of Viking electric lawn mowers
The main difference between these units is that an electric lawn mower has an electric motor instead of an internal combustion engine. For it to work, you need to be connected to an electrical outlet, so the cable will constantly be trailing behind the machine. The body of electric models is made of plastic. Typically, such units are low-power and are designed for mowing small lawns near the house.
Let's look at several representatives of the range of electric mowers:
- ME 235 – designed for mowing small lawns. It is characterized by its compact size and light weight of about 13 kg. The shape of the deck allows you to remove vegetation around the flower beds.
- ME 339 is practically an analogue of the previous model. The difference between the mower is its larger working width, as well as the presence of a mulching function.
- ME 443 – has a working width of up to 41 cm. The electric mower is capable of processing an area of 6 acres. The kit includes a mulching mechanism.
- ME 360 is a conventional electric lawn mower with the function of adjusting the cutting height of vegetation. The model is designed for processing a plot of up to 3 acres.
- ME 545 is the most powerful representative of electric mowers. The unit is capable of processing an area of up to 8 acres. The grass catcher has a capacity of 60 liters. There is a mulching function.
The big advantage of all electric lawn mowers is their quiet operation and the absence of exhaust gases.
